Onibaba 鬼婆
This poster design was inspired by the 1964 Japanese film Onibaba(鬼婆, lit. Demon Hag), set during the 14th century amidst a civil war. The fable tells of two women who kill soldiers, robbing them of their possessions. When a man comes between them, the older woman, stricken with jealousy over her daughter-in-law's relationship, dons a Hannya mask from a fallen Samurai and plots revenge. Hannya masks are often depicted in Noh theater as the souls of women who have turned into demons because of jealousy or obsession.
