Heikegani 平家蟹 are a species of crab native to Japan's inland sea, with a carapace that bears a pattern resembling an angry samurai. According to Japanese folklore, it is believed the Heikegani are reincarnations of the defeated Heike warriors at the Battle of Dan-no-ura in 1185 AD as told in “The Tale of the Heike”.
