Daruma 達磨 are traditional Japanese dolls modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. Each doll personifies the owner’s wishes and serves as a reminder or motivator for the owner to strive toward their goals. Daruma dolls traditionally come with only one or both pupils painted. Achieve your goals and paint in the pupil(s). I also included the Japanese proverb, 七転び八起き "Fall down seven times, get up eight." Meaning you never give up hope and continuously strive for more.
